Friends For Kids is a non-profit organization that matches adult volunteers with children for the purpose of mentoring. Through the program children learn to develop positive relationships, life skills, and self-worth. The organization, which began as a local chapter of Big Brother/Big Sister, was founded by Former Mayor David Abel and in 1992 became Friends For Kids of Daviess County with a main focus on offering services to the local community.

Over the years Friends For Kids has matched hundreds of children to caring adults who provide companionship, encouragement, a listening ear, and more to their young mentees. Friends For Kids also offers life skill classes in which children learn the basics...food safety and preparations, the importance of good personal hygiene, healthy nutrition and eating habits, organizational skills, manners, and more. Life skills for their families include parenting, budgeting, job seeking, and self-improvement.
